HIKING - BACKPACKING - CAMPING - SNORKELING - SCUBA - KAYAK -TRAVEL

BEHIND THE SCENES ...   Many areas you hike have group size limits , which you need to be aware of.  All groups shown in the Virtual albums may appear to hike together, when in fact they do not.  *sorry, photographer editing illusion*  Groups are broken down into Fast-Medium-and-Slower hikers, with designated regrouping points along the way for safety purposes.  Educate yourself on the rules directly with the US Forest Service and National Park Service.  Don't assume - Get the facts first.

11/12/2005 Secret Canyon - Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness -
Coconino National Forest - Sedona Arizona

Deb took her parents and cousin Mark back to this beautiful canyon, but a recent heavy rain completely stripped the trees of the vivid color from last week - all the red, orange & gold leaves were on the ground. It looked like a completely different hike just one week later! We found many things we hadn't seen the week before! Temps between 50's-60's in the canyon, and 70's outside the canyon.  I appreciated getting to join their visit! (photos by Nunya)

12/26/2005 Loy Canyon to Secret Mountain - Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness - Coconino National Forest - Sedona Arizona
Virtual Hike with us through this 16+ mile in-and-out hike which starts with a gradual elevation climb the first 4 miles in a Sedona desert-like canyon, going up to the base of Secret Mountain...then it gets Real!! The climb up to the pine forest of Secret Mountain takes you over 1000ft elevation gain in one mile, with panoramic views of redrock canyons topped with high white cliffs on both sides - and yes I caught the sunset at dusk. 01/21/2006 Secret Canyon - Coconino National Forest -
Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness - Sedona Arizona

The magical thing about Secret Canyon, is that it gives up a new secret every hike. Virtual Hike with us as temps range from 70's to 30's to the beautiful frozen waterfall cascade over 7ft tall. The euphoria that you feel on this awesome Sedona Vortex hike never fails to mean one thing - FUN!

04/07/2006 Brins Mesa to Soldiers Pass - Coconino National Forest -
Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness - Sedona Arizona

The Desert Trails Hiking Group of California planned their Sedona Getaway with fun! I caught up with a few of them on this easy 3 mile (500ft elevation) section of the Brins Mesa/Soldiers Pass Trail. Virtual Hike with us as we pass the Soldiers Arches, Seven Sacred Pools, and Devil's Kitchen - which is the largest active sinkhole in the area. (photos by Nunya)

04/15/2006 Loy Canyon to Secret Mountain - Coconino National Forest
Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness - Sedona Arizona

This is NOT a hike for your casual hiker, even though much of it is a nice stroll. Go Virtual Hike with us through this 16+ mile in-and-out hike which starts with a gradual elevation climb the first 4 miles in a Sedona desert-like canyon, going up to the base of Secret Mountain... THEN up the 1000ft elevation climb in 1 mile, to the pine forest of Secret Mountain with panoramic views of redrock canyons topped with high white cliffs on both sides. (photos by Nunya)

09/23/2006 Boynton Canyon - Coconino National Forest -
Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness - Sedona Arizona

Boynton Canyon is one of the top four most famous Vortex sites in Sedona. The rich iron ore & silicon dioxide content in the beautiful red rock, create magnetic fields of both positive and negative energy - hence a true scientific reason for these energy Vortexes. Boynton has a perfect balance of both negative & positive energy. Go Virtual Hike with 16 of us through this beautiful 5+ mile (500ft ec) EASY hike of ancient 1100 AD Sinaguan Indian Ruins, amazing views, laughter and camaraderie. (photos by Nunya)

10/08/2006 Loy Canyon to Secret Mountain - Coconino National Forest -
Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness - Sedona Arizona

Now HOW you say, can I possibly show you a place I've shown you before - yet it be like you've never seen it before? Easy! The people and wonderful essence of season make the hike. Go Virtual Hike with us on a two-minute mini brain vacation as we stroll you through Loy Canyon to Secret Mountain as it emerges into the heavenly Autumn beauty you could literally smell in the air. See the adorable fuzzy tarantula (yeah I said adorable), and the cute baby horny toad .

10/14/2006 Secret Canyon in the Rain - Coconino National Forest -
Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness - Sedona Arizona

Do you remember how free it felt being able to play in the rain as a child without concern you're getting wet? That is the sheer pleasure of hiking in the rain. Go Virtual Hike with us through Secret Canyon on this cool Autumn day, as the rain drenched the beautiful Red Rock of Sedona to vivid colour, and shrouded the peaks in mist. Enjoy waterfalls and creeks where there usually are none, and a spectacular sunset over Sedona at the end. (photos by Nunya)

10/15/2006 Palatki and Honanki Indian Ruins - Coconino National Forest -
Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness - Sedona Arizona

It can be easy to miss the simple things in life, but with both of the hikes to the Palatki and Honanki Indian Ruins being less than a mile each - they are just simply too cool for anyone to miss. Go Virtual Hike with us back in time to A.D. 650 to the ruins of the Sinagua Indians, who came to the red rock Rincon (box canyon) around A.D. 650 until A.D. 1250, and made their home amongst the Supai Sandstone, which was formed by wind and water more than 300 million years ago. Pictographs and wildlife abound amid the Indian Ruins. (photos by Nunya)

10/29/2006 Carroll Canyon - Airport Loop - Coconino National Forest -
Red Rock Ranger District - Sedona Arizona

Where the locals go... Carroll Canyon is the area by the Sedona Airport, where many locals step out of their back doors to include a short hike in their day. Go Virtual Hike with us as we start on Ridge Trail (from Shelby Rd off 89A), and trot you around Carroll Canyon Trail, to Table Top Trail, to Bandit Trail, for a glimpse of the beautiful views these short trails have to offer.

10/29/2006 Coffee Pot Trail - Coconino National Forest  - Sedona Arizona
The hike to Coffee Pot Rock is a short and easy in-and-out hike (1+ mile each way with 400+ft elevation change) to the famous Sedona landmark. Go Virtual Hike with us as we start at the Sugarloaf Loop trailhead to Teacup trail, and up to the base of the towering Coffee Pot Rock, with beautiful views of Capitol Butte along the way.(photos by Nunya)

11/10/2007 Secret Canyon - Elaine Litman Memorial Hike -
Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness - Sedona Arizona

Secret Canyon in Sedona Arizona, was the last place we hiked with Deb's Mom, Elaine Litman on 11/12/2005, and therefore became the perfect place to hike in her honor. Elaine Litman passed away 09/29/2007 due to complications from ovarian cancer. Go Virtual Hike with us back to Secret Canyon, as the fall colors we had hoped for burst forth with radiance to celebrate the wonderful woman we were there to pay tribute to.
