The trek to Reavis Ranch is packed with terrain as rugged & interesting as the man it is named after. Elisha M. Reavis, known as an eccentric, unkept hermit, supplied produce carried on 8-15 burros to surrounding towns until his body was found trailside May 1896 at age 69. Reavis was found 4 miles from his homestead by his friend James Dalabaugh who came looking for him when he failed to pass by the JF Ranch on a produce run, and buried him beside the trail where he was found. Reavis was a college educated man born 1827 in Beardstown IL, who became a teacher before abandoning his wife & daughter to live as a recluse in the Superstition Mts of AZ. Legend tells of him stripping naked & running with knives in both hands at Apache Indians who were trying to overtake the farm he establishd in 1870. Convinced he was crazy, the Apache ran and never bothered him again.

BEHIND THE SCENES ...   Many areas you hike have group size limits , which you need to be aware of.  All groups shown in the Virtual albums may appear to hike together, when in fact they do not.  *sorry, photographer editing illusion*  Groups are broken down into Fast-Medium-and-Slower hikers, with designated regrouping points along the way for safety purposes.  Educate yourself on the rules directly with the US Forest Service and National Park Service.  Don't assume - Get the facts first.
